What is a Brain Profile?

Waybackin400BCHippocratesdiscoveredthat“Thebrainofmanisdouble”–andthat eachsideofthebrainhasspecialisedfunctions.In1864aFrenchsurgeon,PaulBroca, cametothesameconclusionwhenhediscoveredthatpatientssufferingfromaphasia (lossofspeech)haddamagetotheleftsideofthebrain.
In the 1960’s Philip Vogel and Joseph Bogen performed their breakthrough ‘split-brain’ surgeryonepilepticpatients,whichinvolvedseveringthe‘corpuscallosum’thatconnects thetwohalvesofthebrain.RogerSperryreceivedtheNobelPrizeforhisresearchwork on split-brain patients. Together with colleagues Bogen, Vogel and Gazzinga he concluded that the two hemispheres of the brain controlled vastly different aspects of thought andaction.
NedHerrmann,JacquelinWonder,PriscillaDonovan,BeverleyMooreandmanyothers carried out further research on braindominance.
